General Situation Of The Development Of China's Medical Device Industry: The Growth Rate Is Higher Than The Medicine, The Export Volume Increases Year By Year!

The equipment industry in China is developing rapidly, and the number of production enterprises is increasing steadily

The number of medical device manufacturers in China has increased from hundreds at the beginning of reform and opening up to 15343 at the end of 2016, and the gross output value has increased to hundreds of billions of yuan in 2016. Today, China has become one of the most important producers and consumers of medical devices in the world. Statistics show that the number of medical device manufacturing enterprises in China has been increasing year by year in the past ten years. The number of manufacturers fell from 2015 to 2016 compared with 2014, due to government efforts to overhaul the medical device industry. By the end of 2016, there were 15343 registered medical device manufacturing enterprises in China, of which 4979 could produce first class products, 8957 could produce second class products and 2366 could produce three kinds of products. Overall, China's medical device production industry shows a steady growth trend.

Regional distribution: medical device manufacturing enterprises are mostly distributed in more developed regions

Major medical device manufacturing enterprises in China are mainly located in economically developed areas such as the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan region. Statistical data from provinces and cities show that Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other six provinces and cities of medical device production enterprises have accounted for the total number of 59meters, in the medical device production industry has a pivotal position.

The growth rate is higher than the global level, and the growth rate of equipment manufacturing income is higher than that of medicine

The growth rate of medical device manufacturing revenue is higher than that of pharmaceutical manufacturing: according to the data obtained by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the proportion of medical revenue in the medical industry fell from 84 percent in 2013 to 822 percent in 2016. According to the data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2016, the medical equipment manufacturing industry accounts for 9 percent of the total medical equipment income, showing a steady increase year by year.

China's total export of medical devices is increasing year by year, and the growth rate of imports is relatively low

According to the import volume and export volume of medical devices published by the Customs and the State Statistics Bureau from 2010 to 2016, the total export volume of our country is gradually increasing. The import of medical devices is increasing year by year, although the amount of imported products is increasing gradually, the growth rate of the whole import volume is decreasing.

With the increase of technology, the import and export of medical devices will be transformed to high added value

The import volume of instruments is larger than that of export: according to the import and export data of 2016, hospital diagnostics and treatment products account for the highest proportion of imports and exports. The scale of imports and exports of medical devices was 38.9 billion US dollars, an increase of 1.1% over the same period last year. Of this total, imports totaled $18.4 billion, up 6.3 percent from the same period last year, leading medical imports, with exports worth $20.5 billion, down 3.14 percent from the same period last year. China's export of medical devices has gradually shifted to a high value-added direction: in the past, China's export of medical devices mainly depended on medical dressings and disposable consumables, but now it is small and medium-sized medical equipment. The proportion of high value-added products gradually increased. Medical diagnostic equipment exports accounted for 44% of the total proportion of medical devices in 2016, while medical dressings and disposable consumables accounted for only 11 percent and 16 percent, while medical dressings exports dropped nearly 10 percent from the same period last year. At present, China's medical device export is still in the transitional growth period, relatively large space for development.

Compared with the international, the gap of revenue between domestic enterprises and international enterprises is widening

Compared with the data of listed companies in the medical device industry, the scale of revenue of the top 10 medical device companies in China is generally in the range of 2-1.6 billion US dollars, which is a huge gap with the top 10 medical device companies in the world. Compared with the traditional developed countries, China's medical device industry still has a great room for improvement.
